GIS/Hydraulic modelling
Hydraulic modeling represents software simulation of condition of water supply system based on which a more in-depth analysis of water supply system is conducted by monitoring simulated values of flow through pipeline, pressure in pipeline and fluctuation of water level in reservoirs.
Hydraulic model is created by comparing obtained results with the actually measured values on site, and it serves for realistic perceiving of the condition of the observed water supply system.
The Analysis of simulation in EPANET program can result in improved methods for water management, proposal for the future investments for rehabilitation of existing and construction of new facilities, whereby water supply of the covered region will be improved.
Hydraulic modeling is part of internal measures of Vodacom. This activity commenced in November 2007, and it was carried out in cooperation with the consulting company MACS GmbH from Frankfurt. By this kind of modeling, hydraulic model is created to serve for locating problematic points where leakages are detected.
Modeling in EPANET program allows:
- division of water supply network in zones and sub-zones
- monitoring the ratio between water production and consumption
- perceiving the overall condition or the condition of particular parts of the water supply network
- detecting potential leakages in water supply network
- determining flow and pressure measuring points
Vodacom participated on the 4th Fair “Water – Water utilities – Sanitary Technologies” in Budva on 23 April 2009 with the presentation entitled: “Optimization of Tivat Water Supply by Application of Hydraulic Modeling”.
Authors of the presentation are Ms Bojana Gobović, Head of Technical Department at Vodacom, and Mr Marko Ristanović, GIS/Hydraulic Modeling Engineer
